World Healing Day is coming up on April 30th. Also, known as World Reiki Day. There are many healing modalities that celebrate and honor this day around the world to bring peace and inner healing to others. Promoting mind-body practices for everyone to know is important in creating a world with healthier people.
In this article, I will be answering basic questions about Reiki healing energy. I have been a Reiki healer since 2012. I received my Level 1 certification and attunement here in South Florida. Many people ask me, how or where I found Reiki.
How I Became A Reiki Healer
Earlier that year, I began receiving energy healing from a close friend. In one of our sessions she mentioned that she had another healer friend who she thought I could benefit from. She asked me if I would you be comfortable with that? I jumped with excitement and said yes! I didn’t ask questions, I just felt the energy. At our following meeting I met the guy who would become my Reiki Master and now friend. I asked him if Reiki could help me with a hormonal issue I was having. He said: “yes, but it’s going to take many sessions. I recommend that you learn Reiki so that you can learn to heal yourself.” I was a little nervous about that but with the class being a month away I had enough time to think.
Prior to me asking him this question, I had gone to doctors that were fighting with each other about my treatment. The whole time I was in treatment I felt awful, both physically and emotionally. I was uncomfortable with my hormonal imbalance when it was untreated but with the treatment I was way worse! I thought, I’ve tried the science route with specialized doctors for over 5 years and nothing has helped, on top of that they can’t even agree on what’s the best treatment. It was like they were playing a guessing game with my body. I decided to go for the Reiki certification instead.
I did work on self-healing, and it did take a lot of sessions, and I finally feel comfortable with what I used to call a hormonal imbalance. I can’t say it’s fully healed but it sure feels like it. The way I experience my menstrual cycle sounds like I’m an alien. Barely any cramps, no mood-swings, over in 3-4 days at best, on schedule. The only thing I deal with is fatigue on the first day and I just take it easy that day. It has taken energy healing, releasing thought-patterns, and finally learning about the food that exacerbate the imbalance. The healing journey is a long one and the sooner you can start the better you’ll be for it.
What is Reiki Healing Energy?
Reiki healing energy is a healing modality originally from Japan. The founder of this modality is Dr. Mikao Usui. The term Reiki is actually made up of two Japanese words: “Rei” meaning God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power and “Ki” meaning life force energy (also spelled as Chi). As a Reiki healer, from my experience the practice of Reiki energy healing means the life force given by God’s wisdom.
This healing technique works to reduce stress in our bodies and promotes relaxation. The theory is that when the body is relaxed and it feels safe it will begin to heal itself in the same manner that our skin heals a cut on its own. The same principle is available for our entire body under the proper conditions.
How is a Reiki Treatment Given?
A Reiki healer will follow God’s wisdom (Rei) to channel the life force energy (Ki) to the part of the body that needs it the most, whether it is the spirit body, the emotional body, the physical body, or the thinking body. The Reiki healer will channel this energy through their hands which can be placed directly on top of the person or hovered over the person from 2 - 4 inches away. I find that the best practice is to hover over the body rather than directly touch the client. Level 2 Reiki healers, like myself, are trained to provide distance Reiki in a remote manner to anyone across the globe. When I’m first working with someone I like to meet over video chat and be able to communicate with them as they receive the session.
How Does A Reiki Session Feel?
A Reiki healing energy session feels like a warm glowing ball of energy that slowly travels to the areas of concern. Sometimes it will feel like it’s in only one spot and other times it will feel like it’s a warm blanket covering a larger portion of the body. Feelings include peace, security, and well being. Some people will cough, cry, sigh, feel tingles or cold spots as old patterns or energetic blocks are removed from their body. After the session, some people will feel more energized and others will feel more restful and peaceful. It is important to note that if you are feeling too relaxed, you should take caution before you drive right after a Reiki healing energy session.
Is Reiki Demonic?
Now, I'm not a religious person but I am and have always been very spiritual. I have met demons in my life and I have learned how to identify them and clear them though that is a story for another time!
I think this question is better answered by knowing how Reiki was developed. Back in 1822, Dr. Usui was a Christian minister in Kyoto, Japan. Dr. Usui was passionate about theology through-out his whole life. In his quest to understand how Jesus was able to heal, he went on a research journey that led him to received a Doctorate in Theology from the University of Chicago, learn several languages, study with Buddhists monks and read the scriptures in several languages. Until he was guided to go up to the mountain, Mount Kuri Yama in Japan where he meditated and fasted for 21 days. On his last day he prayed to God for enlightenment. He had been on a very long journey to find this answer and basically dedicated his life to it. The Bible says: Ask and you shall receive and he did.
He saw a light stream across the sky and hit him in the middle of his forehead. He received visions of a secret formula and how to contact it. When the vision was over, he felt full of life and energy. On his trek down the mountain he encountered opportunities for healing himself and others which he noticed happened very quickly. He spent the next 7 years healing beggars on the streets. Later he started talking to people about Reiki all over Japan, and he gathered 16 life-long students before his death in 1893.
How Does Reiki Help People?
The conditions to heal in a safe and natural manner include a harmony between our spirit, our body, and our mind. Reiki healing energy works on these three areas but not always at once. First the energy will go to the place where the energy is needed the most, then flow to the next and so on. I have noticed after so many years in practice that the energy will go towards easing physical pain first so that the body will relax. Many people are happy to stop here. However, if there are chronic conditions Reiki will continue to work on the spiritual and emotional pain, and finally the mental pain. The spiritual and emotional pain can come from our early years or traumatic experiences at any point in our lives. I have even seen traumatic deaths from other lifetimes for some clients with irrational fears. If you read about the mind-body connection you’ll find that mental pain is where many of our conditions worsen or in extreme cases where they are born. Reiki energy healing works on all the levels that require healing. Many things are possible through the power of Reiki energy healing.
I hope this article has brought you some light, and I look forward to helping you if you feel like I can contribute to your healing journey.
